"Retrospectives, who needs them, anyway?" by Aino Vonge Corry
Abstract
The short answer is that everyone needs them. In order to learn from your mistakes 
(and what else is there to learn from?), you need to reflect on what happened as objectively as possible, and make a plan of action for what should happen next. And with the emphasis on retrospectives seen in the agile processes, it would be fair to say that most actually get a retrospective on a regular basis. But that is not the case, since facilitating a retrospective is like coding Smalltalk; a minute to learn a lifetime to master. This presentation will, in much less than a lifetime, get you some of the way to create useful retrospectives.

Aino Corry is technical conference editor and retrospectives facilitator. She holds a masters degree and a ph.d. in computer science. She has 12 years of experience with Patterns in Software Development, and teaches OO design, software architecture and development in academia and industry.

and anti-patterns he's observed when teams attempt to really deliver valuable software. Taking an irreverent view of the goals, architectures, technologies and processes that have become part of our everyday lives, Russ in typical polemical style aims to impart real principles and practices that guide him when helping teams deliver, especially when sometimes they've forgotten how to do that at all! Russ aims to help you never look at what you do for a living the same way again and start delivering valuable software frequently and speedily now.

Russ Miles is Principal Consultant at Simplicity Itself where he works with his clients to help deliver simple and valuable software and change.
Russ' experience covers almost every facet of software delivery having worked across many different domains including Financial Services, Publishing, Defence, Insurance and Search. With over 16 years experience of consultancy, coaching and training, Russ helps to change all facets of the software delivery process in order to remove unnecessary and costly complexity in everything from developer skills and practices, through applying the right processes for the job at hand, to ensuring that the right change is delivered, be it through software or otherwise.
Russ is also an international speaker on techniques for achieving the delivery of valuable software as well as a published author, most recently of "Head First Software Development" from O'Reilly Media. He is currently working on a new book and set of courses that bring together the practical tools for applying simplicity to your software delivery process, both book and courses to be available by mid-2013.
