Abstract

Abstract

Cloud computing has passed the ”buzzword” phase and has become model for lowering computing costs and complexity in many organizations around the world. However, the shift from static to distributed architectures presents a new and pressing class of business problems. In a distributed world, without proper controls in place, data in the cloud is insecure and susceptible to degradation and complete failures. Traditional approaches to data management, such as relational databases simply fall short.

As mobile providers race to introduce new price plans, tariffs and offers for customers and families with multiple connected devices; storing and analysing subscriptions, usage patterns and engagement across multiple MSISDNs and accounts is crucial to offering the best deals.

Furthermore, real-time response possible only when we overcome both the performance and the data currency limitations, 100% availability and high level of flexibility in data structures becomes a very important need for new applications.

In this session, we will look closer at Riak: a low-latency, highly available, easily scalable key-value database and how it is helping one Basho customer store the huge quantities of big data generated while tracking these metrics.

Speaker: Nicholas Bellerephon
Nicholas Bellerophon works as a client services engineer at Basho Technologies, helping customers setup and run distributed systems at scale in the wild. He speaks regularly on the subject at industry conferences, most recently at CERN. He is an avid TED-watcher with interests in many areas of the arts, science, and engineering.
