Push Notifications, From Android To Azure and back
Host: Martin Öbrink-Hansen
When: 26. Mar 2014 at 16:30 - 18:30
Where: Trifork A/S, Margrethepladsen 4, 8000 Aarhus C
Abstract
This GOTO Night will focus on push notifications between an Android app and a Windows Azure-based backend.
Since most of the online Windows Azure documentation for push notifications focuses on how to get up and running for iOS or Windows Phone/Windows 8 clients, I decided to look into how to do this from an Android app.
The agenda will include an introduction to the overall setup involved in push notifications in general, and from there on we will dive into the code required for the specific scenario outlined above -- so expect most of the time to be spent in Android Studio and Visual Studio.
First we will go through the initial code required for the Android app, and from there on we will start working on the backend (Web API, RavendDB, Notification Hubs, Windows Azure Websites). Finally we will revisit the Android app to implement the capability of receiving notifications pushed from the backend.
