At Trustpilot we have grown a website from zero to millions of visitors using nothing but our comp sci background, tech conferences, community input and our gut feeling. Along the way we have stumbled into dozens of pitfalls and gotchas. In this talk we would like to tell you about the most interesting ones and and how we overcame them.
In the mean time the world has turned and given us a bunch of new technologies that are supposed to address our challenges, such as ORMs, brokers, buses, reverse proxies, key-value stores, nosql databases, distributed caches etc.
In the second part of the talk we will show you how we would build a website if we had to start out from scratch today, with an outset in two technologies that have become our backbone: c# and MongoDb.
